After the WWII, the YS-11 was manufactured in Japan,as the first domestic products of turboprop passenger plane.
The maiden flight of the YS-11 was in August, 1962, and 182 planes were manufactured.
Since then, it had been in service for 40 years or more, but YS-11 was retired by the domestic airlines in September, 2006 because of a new aviation rule, requiring collision avoidance radar.
However, the YS-11 continues in service with the JSDF because the civil aviation rule is not applied in JSDF. The YS-11 airframe is still very reliable.
Ten YS-11 were put into service in the JMSDF, 13 in the JASDF.
